
Have you been reading money saving and/or couponing blogs or forums and may have come across some terms or abbreviations that seem foreign? I know I certainly have! Below is a list of some abbreviations that I hope will be helpful to you.
Since learning the coupon lingo is an ongoing process, I'm sure there will always be some that I have missed, so please either leave me a comment or email me and I'll add them to the list.
Sunday Newspaper Insert Abbreviations:
- PG - Proctor & Gamble
- P&GbrandSAVER - A coupon book in most local Sunday newspapers that provides valuable savings on P&G products
- RP - Red Plum
- SS - SmartSource
- V - Valassis
Coupon Abbreviations & Terms:
- $1/1, $1/2 – Take $1 off 1 item, $1 off 2 items, etc. This is just an example; there are always different amounts.
- 2/$3, 2/$5 - Purchase 2 items for $3 (or $1.50 each), 2 items for $5 (or $2.50 each), etc.
- (2) - Use 2 coupons or whichever number is shown in parenthesis
- AC – After Coupon
- Addy – Address
- AR – After Rebate
- Blinkie - Coupon dispensed near product in the store from a red machine box with a blinking light on it
- BOGO, B1G1 or B1G1F – Buy One, Get One FREE
- BOLO – Be On the Look Out
- BTW – By The Way
- CAT or Catalina - Coupon for either money off your next purchase or money off a certain product (at that store) which is printed at the register when you check out or on the back your receipt
- CDB - Coupon Data Base
- Closeouts - Greatly reduced items that the store does not plan on re-stocking
- C/O - Cents Off Coupons
- CPN - Coupon
- CRT - Cash Register Tape or Receipt
- DCRT - Dated Cash Register Tape or Receipt
- DND - Do Not Double
- Double - Store will double value of coupon
- ECB - Extra Care Bucks – CVS “money” which is printed on your receipt when you check out and is to be used on your next transaction
- Ecoupon – Electronic coupons you load directly onto your store shopper card
- ESR – EasySaver Rebate - Walgreen's Monthly Rebate Program
- EXP - Expires or Expiration Date
- FAR - Free After Rebate
- Filler - An item that is purchased to achieve a minimum purchase amount or toward a bigger purchase requirement
- GC - Gift Card or Gift Certificate
- GDA - Good Deal Alert
- HBA - Health and Beauty Aids
- HCW - Hot Coupon World
- HDA - Hot Deal Alert
- HT - Hang Tag for rebate/refund or a coupon found hanging on a product
- IMO - In My Opinion
- ISO - In Search Of
- Insert - Coupons found in the Sunday paper
- IP, IPC or IPQ - Internet Printable Coupon
- ISO - In Search Of
- IVC - Instant Value Coupon - Walgreen's store coupon found in EasySaver booklet
- KM – K-Mart
- KG - Kroger
- KQ - Kroger Store Coupon
- MC or MQ - Manufacturer Coupon
- MFG or MFR - Manufacturer
- MIR - Mail In Rebate
- NAZ - Name, Address, Zipcode
- NED - No Expiration Date
- OAS - On Any Size (For a coupon that is good on any size item)
- OOP - Out of Pocket, what you actually paid
- OOS - Out of Stock - A store is temporarily out of an item but plans on re-stocking it
- Overage or OVG - Amount considered a profit after you stack coupons or use coupons with rebates, etc.
- OYNO - On Your Next Order
- OYNP - On Your Next Purchase
- OYNSO - On Your Next Shopping Order
- Peelie - Coupon you peel off of a package or product. Can be used immediately or at a later time
- PM - Price Match or Private Message
- POP - Proof Of Purchase
- PP - Purchase Price of an item or product
- Printables or Printable Coupons - Coupons found on the internet to print
- PSA - Prices Starting At
- Q or Qs - Coupon or Coupons
- RC - Rain Check - A slip you ask for in the store when a sale item is out of stock
- Regional - Coupon only distributed to a certain area
- RIB - Re Investing Beauty - Coupon from a 99 cent magazine sold at CVS
- RR - Register Rewards - Walgreen “money” which is printed on your receipt when you check out and is to be used on your next transaction
- SASE – Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
- SCR - Single Check Rebate at Rite Aid
- SMP - Specially Marked Packages
- SP - Stockpile
- Stacking - Using two coupons together. For example, you may use a store coupon with a manufacturer's coupon on the same item to increase savings. However, you CANNOT use two manufacturer's coupons or two store coupons together on the same product.
- Tear Pad - Coupons or Rebate Forms you tear from a pad hanging from a store shelf or display near the product
- TMF - Try Me Free
- TQ - Target Store Coupon
- UPC - Universal Product Code or Bar Code found on product and is often required when requesting rebates
- WAGS - Walgreens
- WM – Walmart
- WSL - While Supplies Last
- WYB - When You Buy
- YMMV - Your Mileage (or Manager) May Vary - Meaning you may or may not be able to get the same deal depending on your store's policy or depending on which region you live
